PLAYWRIGHT'S NOTES:
This is the first play I ever wrote. It started as my response to a prompt in a playwriting class taught by Victoria Nalani Kneubuhl at Kumu Kahua Theater. It was first produced at Kumu Kahua in 1998 and directed by the brilliant R. Kevin Garcia Doyle. It has since been produced at the Iao Theater on Maui, University of Hawaii Hilo, SUNY Geneseo in upstate New York, and remounted several times at Kumu Kahua, including one version in which it was a musical. It's been revised a bit over the years, but, sadly, crooked and inept politicians are still relevant in 2025. I want to send my aloha out to everyone who has ever worked on a production of this play, especially R. Kevin Garcia Doyle who helped me shape this story when it was brand new and who came back to direct this production. Much love to the actors who originated the roles in the very first production, especially Eddy Gudoy, who is no doubt telling his tractor joke to all the angels in heaven. Eddy, we miss you.
