MESSAGE FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Aloha Welcome to Mānoa Valley Theatre. We’re so glad you’ve chosen to join us for the second production in our 54th season. This evening’s offering is a real Agatha Christie like mystery. It’s easy to see how Ken Ludwig was inspired by the real historical character William Gillette. Gillette was an actor and playwright who wrote and played the title character in his play Sherlock Holmes. He would play that part over 1,300 times over three decades. Much of his portrayal of Holmes, with the deerstalker hat and curved pipe, helped to create the modern image of the Holmes character. Historically, Gillette, when he was playing Holmes, would bring his cast from Broadway to his rather eccentric castle that he had built on the Connecticut River. The castle, every detail designed by Gillette, is full of secret passages, rooms, and hidden doors (the perfect setting for a murder mystery). One can still visit the castle today in East Haddam, Connecticut. This inspired Ludwig to wonder what would happen if in fact one of Gillette’s guests were to be murdered while visiting there? What would Gillette do? Well, of course, he would assume the persona of the great detective and solve the mystery before any of his other guests were to meet the same fate. Mānoa Valley Theatre’s productions of plays and musicals are made possible by audience members like you. Thank you to those of you who have donated in the past. If you would like to donate today or in the future, you may do it online at manoavalleytheatre.com or by calling 808-988-6131. Now sit back and enjoy, "Ken Ludwig’s; The Game’s Afoot, Or Holmes For The Holidays."
